The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) said the defendant in the alleged extortion case, Nikita Mirzani, who made a live broadcast of TikTok from prison was said to have used a communication tool facility belonging to the detention house (rutan).
Head of the Sub-Directorate for Cooperation of the Directorate General of Immigration and Corrections Rika Aprianti explained that every inmate and detainee has the right to communicate with family or relatives.
"The use of communication tools by Nikita Mirzani is the use of communication tools owned by the Pondok Bambu Detention Center as part of the facilities or means of communication rights for inmates and detainees," said Rika, Thursday, November 13, as reported by ANTARA.
He said the Ditjenpas, in accordance with applicable regulations, fulfilled the communication rights of all inmates and detainees without exception. Fulfillment of this right, he said, was carried out by all prisons and detention centers in Indonesia.
"Being one of the rights, once again, is one of the rights granted by the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs and Maritime Affairs through prisons and detention centers for the right to communicate between inmates and detainees to their families and relatives, of course according to applicable regulations," he said.
According to Rika, communication is also part of the opportunity to motivate inmates and detainees to serve their criminal period and detention properly.
Even so, Rika admitted, the live broadcast when using the right to communicate in detention as did Nikita Mirzani was a new incident. Therefore, Ditjenpas will review this in the future.
"What is certain is that we receive input for our evaluation material and we will follow up. We will explore things like this and we will review what they are like," he said.
Previously, the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (28/10) sentenced Nikita Mirzani to four years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to three months in prison in a case of alleged extortion accompanied by threats.
