JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) rejuvenates trees in the Jalan Metro Pondok Indah area, South Jakarta, so that it no longer endangers road users.
Head of the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service (Distamhut) Fajar Sauri explained that as many as eight Palem Raja (Royal Palm) trees that were old and experienced root loss were cut down because they could potentially endanger road users.
"This tree rejuvenation is an important step to ensure the safety and comfort of the community, as well as maintain the ecological balance of the city," said Fajar, ANTARA, Tuesday, October 28.
As a substitute step, said Fajar, his party planted five Tabebuya trees in the same location.
Gradually, there will also be rejuvenation of approximately 200 Palem Raja trees along the median of Jalan Metro Pondok Indah which stretches for 3.8 kilometers.
The substitute trees planted will be adjusted to the original Indonesian tree type which has the ability to absorb pollutants and can grow well in limited areas.
One of them is the Tabebuya tree, which is known to have high pollutant absorption and aesthetic value due to its beautiful flowers.
