PANGKALPINANG - Pangkalpinang City Government, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, dredged rivers, dealers, and ditches to anticipate flooding during the rainy season.

The Mayor of Pangkalpinang, Saparudin, said that his party would deploy heavy equipment to deepen the flow of rivers and waterways so that the flow would be smoother.

"We will deploy heavy equipment to deepen the flow of these rivers and sewers," said Saparudin during a mutual cooperation activity within the Pangkalpinang City Government, Antara, Friday, October 17.

He explained that the work was carried out by the Pangkalpinang City Public Works Office, as well as cleaning piles of garbage along roads, sidewalks, and water flow.

"With a smooth flow and a clean environment, we can minimize the risk of flooding and also environmental-based diseases," he said.

According to Saparudin, the potential for flooding in the rainy season at the end of this year is quite high. Therefore, it takes quick and precise steps so that disasters can be prevented from an early age.

"We focus on environmental cleanliness so that the city is clean, beautiful, and free from disasters and diseases such as dengue and malaria," he said.

Saparudin also invited the state civil apparatus and the public to care about environmental cleanliness and not littering.

"High rainfall needs to be anticipated by mutual cooperation cleaning the environment. Everyone must be involved so that Pangkalpinang remains safe and comfortable," he said.
