PPP Has 2 General Chairs, Yusril Ensures The Government Is Neutral

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correction Yusril Ihza Mahendra emphasized that the government is neutral and does not side with any camp in responding to the internal dynamics of the United Development Party (PPP).

"The government must be objective and must not take sides with any of the warring camps in the internal dynamics of any party," said Yusril when confirmed in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, September 29.

Yusril said the government would be careful in ratifying the new composition of PPP administrators. He emphasized that the ratification would only be carried out after going through an in-depth legal study and in accordance with applicable norms.

Previously, the 10th PPP Congress in Ancol at the end of September gave birth to two elected general chairmen, namely Muhammad Mardiono and Agus Suparmanto. Both claimed to have been elected by acclamation and declared legal leadership in accordance with the PPP Articles of Association/House Budget (AD/ART).

The two camps also stated that they would immediately register a new composition of the post-contaminated board after pouring the congress' decision into a notary deed. According to the procedure, the application for approval must be submitted by the old management registered with the Directorate General of General Legal Administration of the Ministry of Law.

Yusril invited the two camps to register the management structure with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights by attaching supporting documents.

"The government is obliged to carefully review the petition to ascertain which one is in accordance with applicable legal norms and which one is not," he said.

According to Yusril, internal party conflicts are internal matters that must be resolved according to the AD/ART and the Political Party Law. The government will not intervene or mediate the conflict because it can be interpreted as a form of intervention.

He emphasized that in a democratic country, political parties act as the main pillars of democracy. The government wants all parties to be able to resolve internal dynamics independently through deliberation, party courts, and court forums.

Yusril ensured that the government would only use legal considerations in certifying political party officials. If there is an internal conflict, the government will wait for an internal party agreement, a party court decision, or a court decision with permanent legal force.

"The government must not use political considerations in ratifying the composition of any political party officials," said Yusril asserted.
