First Day Of Eid Al-Fitr , People's Homes Up To The Road In Sampit Central Kalimantan Besieged By Floods

SAMPIT - The atmosphere of Eid al-Fitr 1442 Hijri in Sampit, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan, was flooded. Settlements to roads in the city were almost all flooded.

"Our house is usually not flooded, but last night flooded into the house. The road is also difficult to pass because it is submerged", said Serunika, a resident of Sampit Metropolitan Wengga Housing told Antara, Thursday, May 13.

Flooding occurred due to heavy rains that occurred from Wednesday, May 12, night until Thursday, May 13 this morning. Even during the eid prayer, the rain still hit Sampit.

This condition is also influenced by the condition of the Mentaya River that is in high tide. As a result, rainwater flows slowly into the river, soaking roads and low-lying housing.

Some flooded housing such as Wengga Metropolitan, Deny Priantoro Housing, Arjuno Baamang Subdistrict, Perumnas HM Arsyad Road, dr Murjani Hospital area, Mentawa Baru Ketapang Subdistrict.

Several roads were also flooded, including Muchran Ali Street which is located quite close to the Mentaya River. Residents have to reduce the speed when passing because the puddle is deep enough even though it gradually recedes.

"Until this morning the water was still soaking in the house, but it began to recede. Hopefully, it recedes soon", said Ade Rizky Aditya, a resident of Arjuno Housing 4.

Residents whose homes were flooded were forced to busy securing household furniture so as not to be submerged. Eid al-Fitr is forced to be filled by cleaning houses both still flooded and after being hit by floods.

"I was forced to tell the family not to visit the house first because the complex was flooded evenly. It's a pity to be stuck in the middle of the road. Wait until there is further notice", said Rahmad, a resident of Deny Priantoro Housing, Baamang Barat Village.

Meanwhile, based on early warning information issued by BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) Haji Asan Sampit Station, rain is still potentially occurring until 13.00 WIB in all sub-districts in East Kotawaringin.

Until 16.00 WIB, of the 17 subdistricts, only the weather of Teluk Sampit district has the potential to be sunny, while the other 16 subdistricts are still potentially hit by rain.
