Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Budi Gunawaan said the government would investigate the death of an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol), Affan Kurniawan.

Affan was killed in a demonstration that ended in chaos on Thursday, August 28 evening. He was run over by a passing Barracuda Brimob tactical vehicle to disperse the crowd in the Pejompongan area, Jakarta.

"The government will investigate the incident and ensure the process is transparent," Budi said in a written statement, Friday, August 29.

Budi also expressed his condolences for the death of Affan.

"The government expresses its deep condolences for the death of Affan Kurniawan during the demonstration," he said.

Budi reminded the police to be careful in carrying out security. "The officers in the field should be more persuasive and more humane," he said.

"Thank you to the action participants who have conveyed their aspirations in an orderly manner and apologized to the people who were disturbed by their activities," continued the former Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

As previously reported, seven policemen were arrested in connection with the random incident that hit this ojol driver. They are Kompol C, Aipda M, Bripka R, Briptu D, Bripda M, Baraka Y, and Baraka J.

Those involved are currently undergoing examination by the Divpropam Police Headquarters and Propam Mako Brimob.

As a result of the incident, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has also apologized and admitted that he regretted the incident.
