205 Palestinians Wounded At Al-Aqsa Mosque, Government Should Send Protests To The United Nations

JAKARTA - The Regional Management of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) in East Java strongly criticized and called for international sanctions against Israel for attacking Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday, May 7.

Head of PWNU East Java K.H. Marzuqi Mustamar said that NU East Java also instructed nahdiyin to read Qunut Nazilah and Hizin Nashor for the rest of the fasting month this year.

"This is a form of solidarity, asking for help from Allah SWT so that Palestine in particular and also the world can create a peaceful situation," he said.

Israeli police on Friday, May 7 fired rubber bullets and stun grenades at Palestinian youths at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque amid growing anger over the potential displacement of Palestinians from land claimed by Jewish settlers.

At least 205 Palestinians and 17 officers were injured in nighttime clashes at Islam's third holiest site and around East Jerusalem, Palestinian medics and Israeli police said.

Thousands of Palestinians confronted several hundred Israeli police in riot gear. Tensions have risen in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank during this fasting month.

Clashes occur every night in Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem, where many Palestinian families face eviction in a long-running legal case.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of the East Java PWNU K.H. Abdussalam Shohib condemned the Israeli attacks on Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, then urged the Indonesian government to protest loudly at the United Nations.

"Violent practices and real violations continue to be carried out by Israel against Palestinians, such as the attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque. NU firmly urges the government to carry out an official protest to the UN," said Jombang Denanyar boarding school leader.
