China Records 7,000 Chikungunya Cases, Discourse On Policies Like COVID-19

JAKARTA - More than 7,000 cases of the Chikungun virus that have been transmitted through mosquitoes throughout China's Guangdong Province, since July 2025.

Based on a BBC report, Tuesday, August 5, the Chinese government is pushing for similar steps taken as in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic to contain its Chikungu.

The highest area of this case is faced by Foshan City. Patients in the Chikungu case must be hospitalized, with beds protected by nets.

The Chikungu patient can only be sent home after the test result is negative or after a week of hospitalization.

The chikungu is contagious through the bite of an infected mosquito. The virus continues to cause severe fever and joint pain, which can sometimes last for years.

Generally, this case is rare in China. The Chikungu outbreak often occurs in South and Southeast Asia and parts of Africa.
