BOYOLALI - The Central Java Regional Police uncovered the practice of counterfeiting money by cross-regional gangs. Their production house was found in the Banyudono area, Boyolali Regency.

Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Central Java Police, Kombes Dwi Subagio, said six members of the gang were arrested at different locations and times. They have different roles in the process of producing and distributing counterfeit money.

"The six suspects who were arrested were W (70) a resident of Boyolali, M (50) from Tangerang, BES (54) from Kudus, HM (52) from Bogor, JIP (58) from Magelang, and DMR (30) a resident of Sleman," Dwi told reporters in Semarang, Antara, Tuesday, August 5.

According to Dwi, one of the suspects acted as a financier, while the other became a designer of counterfeit money to be printed.

During the raid, the police confiscated 410 pieces of counterfeit notes of Rp100,000 that had been completed. In addition, 1,800 other pieces were also found which are still in the process of printing, complete with production equipment.

"Based on the perpetrator's confession, at least 150 counterfeit bills have been circulating in the East Java region," said Dwi.

This gang admitted that it had started operating since June 2025. However, the police are still investigating the information. One of the suspects is known to have been involved in a similar case, so the quality of the print is neat and resembles the original.

"We are still investigating. But from the print, it is suspected that they are quite experienced," he added.

The suspects were charged with Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency. Currently, they are being held for further legal proceedings.
