JAKARTA - The United States, Britain, and 12 other allies on Thursday denounced what they called a spike in plans for the assassination, kidnapping and harassment of Iranian intelligence agencies targeting individuals in Europe and North America.

"We are united against Iran's intelligence agency efforts to kill, kidnap and harass people in Europe and North America who have clearly violated our sovereignty," the countries said in a joint statement.

In a joint statement, the Government of Albania, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Britain and the US urged Iranian authorities to immediately stop these illegal activities.

They say such actions are increasingly being carried out in collaboration with international criminal networks.

The Iranian Embassy in London did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Earlier in July, they rejected reports by British lawmakers that said Tehran posed significant and widespread threats to Britain as baseless, slanderous, and dangerous.

Since early 2022, Britain has claimed to have thwarted more than 20 plans for kidnapping or killings linked to Iran in Britain, including British nationals and other parties Tehran considers a threat.

In October, Reuters reported Iran was behind a wave of attempted murder and kidnappings across Europe and the United States.

Meanwhile, in March, the British Government announced it would require the Iranian State to register all political influence activities, citing increasingly aggressive behavior by Tehran's intelligence services.
