JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) noted that a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred on Wednesday at 08.24.35 a.m. local time, which was estimated to be 5.7 M in the Mentawai region without the potential for a tsunami.

"The modeling results show that the earthquake has no potential for a tsunami", said Head of Earthquake and Tsunami Center at the BMKG, Bambang Setiyo Prayitno in his statement in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Bambang urged the public to remain calm and not be affected by issues that cannot be accounted for.
