JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto invited the Russian Federation to open more direct flights between the two countries, following the recovery of direct Moscow-Denpasar flights.
This was conveyed by President Prabowo in a press statement with President Vladimir Putin after a bilateral meeting in the context of a state visit at the status Palace, St. Petersburg, Russia, Thursday 19 June.
President Prabowo recalled that at the last July 2024 meeting, President Putin expressed his desire to open a direct Russian-Indonesian flight.
Currently, Russia's largest airline serves Moscow-Denpasar flight routes three times a week and in winter four times a week, President Prabowo said.
"We open up opportunities if we want to add more flights. Not only to Bali, but to other cities in Indonesia. We are opening for direct flights from Russia," President Prabowo explained as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.
Earlier, President Putin said Russia and Indonesia were trying to facilitate travel between the two countries with direct flights and the opening of a consultant general.
"We are restoring direct flights from Moscow to Bali. In January (2025) the Russian Consulate General opened," said President Putin.
It is known that direct flights between Russia-Indonesia and the Moscow-Denpasar route were launched on September 17, 2024, from Sheremetyevo Airport, after direct flights between the two countries stopped for four years, quoted from Antara.
In August 2024, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov revealed the decision to open the Russian Consulate General in Bali, as well as plans for a direct Moscow-Denpasar flight by mentioning Russian airline Aeroflot, which he believes will increase the arrival of Russian citizens to Indonesia.
