JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding together with the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Mayerfas discussed the potential and strategy of placing Indonesian migrant workers to the Netherlands and efforts to expand access for Indonesian workers to European regions.

The discussion was held at his second meeting at the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta, on Monday 17 June.

"So, tonight I met with the Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mr. Mayerfas, to discuss the potential for migrant work in the Netherlands," said Minister Karding as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 18.

Minister Karding said that currently there are around 2 million Indonesian citizens (WNI) in the Netherlands, with many potential work that can actually be utilized.

In the midst of the condition of the Dutch people who are currently experiencing aging society, where the elderly (elderly) are more than young or productive, this prompted the Dutch to look for migrant workers, including from Indonesia, to meet the needs of the workforce.

On the other hand, there are many benefits that Indonesians can get if they work in that country.

For this reason, Minister Karding discussed opportunities in the Netherlands and other European countries so that Indonesian migrant workers could immediately absorb them.

"We have spoken with the Ambassador for several sectors that we can fill, be it the health sector, hospitality, construction work, even plantations and also high skills such as IT," he said.

"What is interesting is that in the Netherlands they experience aging (society), and have a high salary. The salary can be up to a minimum of IDR 40 million to IDR 80 million, especially in construction work, caregivers, and nurses," continued Minister Karding.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands Mayerfas underlined the importance of aligning Indonesia's potential with the growing needs in the field.

"We need to try to increase the entry of our migrant workers to the Netherlands, especially to Europe. Our potential exists and opportunities there are. What potential do we have with the opportunity we can synchronize, so that all of this potential can be realized to take advantage of the opportunities there that continue to grow," said Ambassador Mayerfas.

He also added that sectors such as elderly nurses, clinical staff, crew members, and restaurants are areas that are growing rapidly in the Netherlands.

"The Minister also gave clear directions regarding who is included in the Indonesian labor category, and it is important that they be registered and protected," said Ambassador Mayerfas.
