JAKARTA - Two Chinese Navy ships arrived in Bali waters to help evacuate the submarine KRI Nanggala-402. The submarine KRI Nanggala-402 was previously found split into three parts because it sank during a training mission.

The arrival of the two ships, namely PRC Navy Ship Ocean Tug Nantuo-195 and PRC Navy Ocean Salvage & Rescue Yong Xing Dao-863 were greeted by KRI Layang-635 with welcome greetings and thanks for their assistance through communication tools.

The Head of the Indonesian Navy's Head of Information Service (Kadispen) in a written statement on Monday, May 3 said that the PLA Navy's support for Indonesia originated from the offer of the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia to the Indonesian Minister of Defense regarding China's humanitarian assistance in handling KRI Nanggala-402 in the form of a salvage ship. The Indonesian government welcomed this offer of humanitarian assistance.

The specifications for the salvage ships, namely Ocean Salvage and Rescue Yongxingdao-863, have a length of 156 meters, a width of 21 meters, and a height of 7.5 meters. This ship has robots, sonar, side scane, and rescue boats.

Meanwhile, Ocean Tug Nantuo-195 is 119 meters long, 16 meters wide, and 6.5 meters high. These Chinese Navy salvages have the capability to carry out evacuations to a depth of 4500 meters.

Apart from assistance from the Chinese government, the Indonesian Navy plans to appoint the KRI Nanggala-402 agency along with the crew members who died in collaboration with Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) which will operate the Timas 1201 ship.

The ship to be operated has specifications, namely 162.3 meters in length, 37.8 meters in width, and 16.1 meters in height. This ship uses a crane with a capacity of 1,200 MT which is suitable for conventional platform installations.
