JAKARTA - Britain on Wednesday pledged to supply 100,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of the current financial year in April 2026, marking a tenfold increase, after saying unmanned aerial vehicles had changed the way of fighting.
The 350 million drone package is part of a military support initiative worth 4.5 billion more broadly for Ukraine, the government said.
Defense Minister John Healey will make the announcement at a meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group which was attended by 50 countries in Brussels, which was jointly held with Germany.
"The UK is increasing its support for Ukraine by sending hundreds of thousands of drones again this year and completing an important milestone in the delivery of essential artillery ammunition," Defense Minister Healey said in a statement ahead of the meeting.
The government on Monday supported an independent-produced Strategic Defense Review, calling on more lethal and technologically-driven soldiers to counter emerging threats, including possible Russian aggression.
Britain, one of Ukraine's most loyal supporters in the West, plans to learn from Kyiv's struggle for more than three years against the Russian invasion, in which drones have changed the battlefield.
