JAKARTA - The Government of the Republic of Indonesia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has succeeded in evacuating a number of Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were affected by the conflict situation in the North Region of Yemen through Oman.
In a written statement, the ministry said that 10 Indonesian citizens who were evacuated from northern Yemen arrived in the country via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Banten on Thursday.
"The repatriation process begins with the evacuation by land from northern Yemen to the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat's Protection House in Tarim City which is in the south on May 17-18," the ministry said in a statement on Thursday, May 22.
From there, the Indonesian citizens who were evacuated continued their journey to Salalah, Oman on May 21 and were then flown to the country.
Indonesian citizens who were evacuated came from several areas, namely, Banten, Jakarta, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi.
The Indonesian government is currently also planning to facilitate the evacuation of the second wave. To date, 18 Indonesian citizens have expressed their willingness to participate in the second wave of evacuation processes, the majority of which are women, children and the elderly, the ministry said.
Regarding the security situation in northern Yemen, the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat has set Alert I status for the northern Yemen region which includes the Hudaidah, Sanaa, Dhamar, Taizz and Turbah areas on May 10, 2025.
Several protective measures have been taken by the government, including intensive coordination with related Ministries/Institutions, updating of Indonesian citizen data in Yemen, updating contingency plans including evacuation routes, and coordinating with local authorities to ensure safe corridors for the movement of Indonesian citizens to safer areas.
