Palestine Condemns Shooting Towards International Diplomat Delegation By Israeli Military At Jenin Refugee Camp

JAKARTA - The Palestinians condemned the Israeli military's shooting at an international delegation near the entrance to the Jenin Refugee Camp on Wednesday.

Diplomatic delegations from a number of countries made visits to Jenin's Kegubernuran headquarters on Wednesday morning, continuing to review the situation in the city and camp.

Those in the delegation included Egyptian, Jordanian, Moroccan, European Union, Portugal, China, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Turkey, Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Japan, Romania, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Canada, India, Chile, France, England and several representatives of other countries.

WAFA korespondents said the occupation soldiers stationed at Jenin's camp fired live and hard at the diplomatic delegation while they were in the vicinity of Jenin Camp, to see the conditions of the camps and sieges carried out on them, as quoted Wednesday, May 21.

He noted that when the delegation was near an iron gate where occupation forces were installed at the east entrance of the camp, the occupation army fired hard at the delegation and a group of journalists covering the visit.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the occupation targeting the diplomatic delegation, stressing that the aggressive action constitutes a marked and serious violation of international law and the most basic rules of diplomatic relations set out in the 1961 Vienna Convention, which guarantees protection, mission immunity, and diplomatic delegation.

"This intentional and unlawful act is a blatant and serious violation of international law and the basic principles of diplomatic relations as stated in the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," the Ministry said in a press statement.

The statement added, "The targeting of accredited diplomatic representatives who enjoy legal protection and full immunity under international law reflects the systematic humiliation of Israel's occupation of the norms and obligations governing relations between countries and underlines the strong-rooted impunity it continues to do."

The ministry considers the Israeli occupation government to be fully and directly responsible for the attack, insisting the measure will not be tolerated without accountability.

The ministry also called on the international community, especially the diplomat country of origin, to take a clear and firm stance against this serious violation and implement effective measures to curb Israel's ongoing crimes.
