Supporting The Lifting Of The Moratorium In Saudi Arabia, Yahya Zaini Asks The Ministry Of P2MI To Prioritize PMI Formal First

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the House of Representatives Yahya Zaini asked the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Ministry (KemenP2MI) to prioritize formal migrant workers when the moratorium with Saudi Arabia was revoked.

"Commission IX agrees to remove the MORatorion with Saudi Arabia because considerations for regulations in Saudi Arabia have changed. But I ask the Ministry of P2MI to prioritize formal workers first," he explained when contacted in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 30.

This Golkar legislator added that for the domestic work sector, it is better not to open it immediately to avoid certain incidents.

Moreover, he continued, reflecting on the data provided by the Ministry of P2MI regarding 183 Indonesian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia with illegal status. Although there is still a moratorium.

"Don't open it immediately to domestic workers or household assistants because what happens a lot of cases are those who work as household assistants," he added.

Yahya Zaini proposed to the Ministry of P2MI to whiten the illegal status of 182 migrant workers in Saudi Arabia.

"Against the non-procedural PMI, I propose to whiten it so that it has a legal status. It is the responsibility of the KP2MI to protect them, even though they are non-procedural," he explained.

Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives previously supported the Ministry of P2MI's plan to open a moratorium or cooperation in the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia.

This was approved by all members of Commission IX after the Working Meeting with P2MI Minister Abdul Kadir Karding, Deputy Minister of P2MI Christina Aryani and Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, April 28.

"The Indonesian House of Representatives Commission IX supports the revocation of the moratorium on sending Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to Saudi Arabia with the records of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Ministry (KP2MI) immediately seeking to ensure that there is fulfillment of the principle of maximum protection guarantee for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), including a fair work agreement with legal entity employers, certainty of evaluation monitoring systems, social security, minimum salary, decent working hours, and certainty of the rights of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) integrated with the Saudi Arabian government system and international law," said Chairman of Commission IX DPR RI Charles Honoris.

Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives also encourages the Ministry of P2MI to immediately seek a bilateral cooperation agreement with the Saudi Arabian government.
