Seeing The Harvest In Malang, Jokowi Wants To Ensure Rice Production Is Sufficient

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo visited Kanigoro Village, Pagelaran District, Malang Regency, East Java. He wants to see the big harvest, rice planting, to milling.

He came with the Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament Puan Maharani and a number of ministers, the Governor of East Java Khofifah, and the Malang Regent Sanusi.

Jokowi said that his visit to Malang was to ensure that the rice production produced could meet the rice needs of the Indonesian people.

"I together with Mrs. Puan Maharani, Chair of the Indonesian Parliament, as well as ministers, governors, and regents to ensure that the existing rice production, the existing harvest can truly meet the needs of all Indonesian people," said Jokowi in the Presidential Secretariat Youtube, Thursday, 29 April.

If the amount of rice production can be calculated and meets the needs of the community, Jokowi admits that the government will not import rice.

"Therefore, we do not need imports, but the calculations must be certain. Because this concerns stomach problems, the people's stomach problem is from here," said Jokowi.

Furthermore, Jokowi accommodated the farmers' wishes to support their rice production. He said farmers need infrastructure related to technology.

"Earlier asked by the farmers about harvesting machines, tractors, and other things. I think we will fulfill this because this is needed by the farmers," he said.

The former governor of DKI Jakarta also received information about the superior rice seeds used by farmers in Malang. They use the IPB 3S variety. One hectare planted with this variety can produce 12 tons of rice or grain.

"This is a very good result. And I will follow up with IPB. So that this can be developed in large numbers again. So that our food security, our food sovereignty can really be achieved without having to import from other countries," he explained.
