Bandang Floods Hit South Tapanuli, 10 Residents Injured

JAKARTA - Flash floods hit South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province and injured 10 residents. This incident occurred on Wednesday, December 18 at 17.00 WIB.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari launched that this incident was triggered by a fairly high intensity of rain in the South Tapanuli Regency and caused two sub-districts, namely Batang Angkola District and Tano Tombangan District to be affected.

"Based on data received by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Wednesday night at 22.40 WIB, 495 families were affected by this incident and caused 10 minor injuries and 250 families to evacuate at three evacuation points in Posyandu Somaninggir, the GPA Church in Kota Tua and Hasadaon Palace in Kota," said Abdul, Thursday, December 19.

Meanwhile, material losses were reported to be 495 affected houses, at several locations the thickness of mud due to this incident reaching 50 cm and cleaning is still being carried out by joint officers assisted by the community and village officials.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Tapanuli Regency made efforts to help and coordinate with the sub-districts and affected village officials to anticipate further impacts.

The latest condition is reported that the electricity network in the affected areas has broken and the water conditions are gradually receding.

BNPB appealed to local governments and communities in South Tapanuli Regency to always be aware of the potential risk of further flooding disasters considering the weather conditions in the affected areas that are still raining with moderate to high intensity.
