Infidelity And Economic Problems Dominate Divorce Cases In West Jakarta

JAKARTA The West Jakarta Religious Court revealed that the two main factors that dominate divorce in its area are infidelity and financial problems. The data noted that from January to March 2025, the number of divorce cases had reached nearly 900 cases.

The chairman of the West Jakarta Religious Court, Muhammad Razali, explained that the unstable economic situation, such as termination of employment (PHK) to pressure on debt from online loans, was the main trigger for conflicts in the household. When basic needs cannot be met, family harmony is also threatened.

"Of the approximately 800-900 cases we handled in the first three months of 2025, the majority were related to economic difficulties and there were third parties in the marriage relationship," said Razali after holding an audience with the Mayor of West Jakarta, Uus Kuswanto, Friday (11/4).

Interestingly, West Jakarta occupies the third highest position in divorce rates throughout DKI Jakarta, under East Jakarta and South Jakarta. This figure shows a trend that needs attention from various parties, especially in building family resilience.

In the event of infidelity, Razali added that both husband and wife can become perpetrators, and this is often a turning point that causes households to no longer be maintained. When trust is broken, especially if there is a third person, it is very difficult to restore the relationship," he explained.

As a preventive measure, the West Jakarta Religious Court does not only focus on handling cases, but is also active in providing legal counseling to the public. This education aims to enable couples to understand their rights and obligations and resolve conflicts without having to lead to divorce.

In addition, there are 28 non-judicial mediators who have been prepared to help the disputed couple. These mediators are tasked with providing an objective middle ground so that both parties can make peace before the final decision is handed down by the court.
