Indonesia And Turkey Collaborate In Film Production History Of The Ottoman Era

JAKARTA - Indonesia and Turkey agreed to strengthen strategic partnerships through cultural cooperation. During President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to Ankara, the cultural synergy of the two countries was emphasized as one of the important pillars of diplomacy.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon accompanied President Prabowo during a speech to the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, His Majesty Numan Kurtulmus, and all members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

"The relationship between Indonesia and Turkey has existed since the era of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century. Even during the struggle, Turkish military officers had helped Indonesia fight the Portuguese colonialists," said Culture Minister Fadli Zon in a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday, April 11, [2025].

President Prabowo in his speech emphasized the importance of global solidarity in the midst of a multipolar world. He also highlighted the attitude of big countries that ignore the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza. Indonesia and Turkey have the same view in supporting the Palestinian struggle to independence," said President Prabowo.

As a follow-up to this state visit, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia has signed a cultural cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said concrete cooperation would begin through a film project. "We agreed to produce a joint film about the history of relations between Indonesia and the Ottoman Kingdom. This is important as historical literacy for the younger generation," he said.

The synergy between Indonesian and Turkish culture is a real step in strengthening bilateral relations, as well as advancing cultural-based diplomacy in the global era.
