Checking Rorotan RDF, Pramono Finds The Cause Of Rotten Smells Complained By Residents

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung directly checked the condition of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant Rorotan, North Jakarta. This waste processing facility into alternative fuel is being complained of by residents due to foul odor pollution.

Arriving at the location, Pramono wanted to know what caused the unpleasant odor in Rorotan RDF to be polluted to local residents' settlements.

"I specifically really want to know what the whole problem is in the Rorotan RDF. I have received a report from those who worked on it," said Pramono at RDF Rorotan, Cilincing, North Jakarta, Monday, March 20.

Pramono also invited a number of residents who protested the foul smell to enter the RDF Plant commissioning area. Apparently, the smell came from old waste that was processed.

"Technically, the waste used should be garbage for the longest three days so that the garbage is fresh. There should be more than a month and so on," explained Pramono.

"So this is what then causes bacteria, smells, black trash, and so on," he added.

Thus, Pramono langusng instructed the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency to immediately carry out treatment. One of them is the installation of substances or tools to eliminate odors (deodorizers).

Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, admitted that his party would temporarily suspend the commissioning process to make improvements.

The DKI Department of Environment and Forestry will also empty the remaining waste of around 800 tons. This garbage has been piling up since one month ago. As a result of being buried for always a long time, it finally gave rise to an increasingly stronger unpleasant odor.

"At that time, residents protested because the equipment used was not perfect either. And finally until now the garbage is still piling up in the bunker," explained Asep.
