Shabu Dealers Operate During Tarawih Prayers In Mataram, NTB Arrested, 21 Packages Secured

NTB - Police confiscated 21 packages of methamphetamine ready to be circulated from the arrest of a suspected drug dealer with the initials SU (40) in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Monday, March 10 in the morning.

Head of the Mataram Police Narcotics Unit AKP I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Suputra said the arrest of SU took place in the Karang Bagu area, one of the villages prone to drug trafficking.

"The methamphetamine package was found in the yard of the alleged perpetrator's house," said Bagus in Mataram, Monday, March 10, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that there was methamphetamine found wrapped in 16 packages ready for distribution and the rest in cigarette packs.

"The methamphetamine in the cigarette pack was found under a tree near the perpetrator sitting," he said.

For the gross weight of 21 packages of crystal methamphetamine, he said, the amount reached 5.44 grams.

Bagus said SU's arrest took place in an alley near his house. When the police arrived, SU was seen with two of his colleagues who then managed to escape from the police arrest.

"Two of his colleagues are missing, jumping into the river. SU said, these two people are friends who are also dealers," he said.

Although both of them fled, Bagus ensured that his party had pocketed their identity. The field search is currently ongoing.

"We have obtained the identities and addresses of the two people," he said.

The arrest of SU, he explained, was carried out based on information from the public. SU circulated methamphetamine by utilizing tarawih prayer time.

"During this fasting month, the person concerned opens his stall when people pray tarawih prayers," he said.

As a result of his actions, SU is now threatened with criminal acts under Article 114 paragraph (2) and/or Article 112 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"Given that the evidence of methamphetamine exceeds 5 grams, according to the statutory regulations, we impose paragraph 2 with a minimum threat of 4 years, a maximum of 20 years or life imprisonment or the death penalty," he said.
