JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said he wanted to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran. Trump sent a letter to the country's leadership on Thursday in the hope that they would agree to negotiate.

"I said I hope you will negotiate, because it will be much better for Iran," Trump said in an interview with Fox Business Network broadcast on Friday, March 6, reported by Reuters.

"I think they want to get the letter. Another alternative is that we have to do something, because you can't let other nuclear weapons go," Trump continued.

The letter appears to be addressed to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for it.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov discussed international efforts to resolve the situation surrounding Iran's nuclear program with Iran's Kazem Jalali ambassador, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
