The Central Lombok Regency Government, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) stated that teaching and learning activities for kindergarten, elementary and junior high school students were closed during the peak of the Bau Nyale tradition (catching marine worms) at Seger Beach, Special Economic Zone (KEK) Mandalika.

"At the peak of Bau Nyale, Wednesday tomorrow, students will be closed specifically, they will have a day off from school," said Secretary of the Central Lombok Regency Education and Culture Office Lalu Moh Hilim in Central Lombok, Antara, Tuesday, February 18.

He said school holidays during the Bau Nyale tradition had been stipulated in the education calendar. It's just that the school holiday time is adjusted to the results of the coffee shop (musyawarah determining the peak of Bau Nyale).

Therefore, based on the educational calendar, a circular was made so that all schools in Central Lombok sent students away.

"The students who are closed start from kindergarten, elementary, and junior high school which are the district's authority and for high school students depending on the provincial education office," he said.

He said the goal of being closed by school students during Bau Nyale was to give them the opportunity to follow the Bau Nyale tradition so that the local cultural tradition was understood and preserved.

"They became aware of what Nyale was, because they were involved and immediately arrested them and their families," he said.

He said students were closed for one day at the peak of Bau Nyale, because they left for the Bau Nyale location in the afternoon after returning from school.

Furthermore, the activity of catching Yalle is carried out in the early hours of the morning until the Sun appears.

"So they take one day off, after that they go back to school," he said.

He said the location of Bau Nyale was not only on Seger Beach, Mandalika SEZ, but also in the southern coast, such as Mawun Beach, Are Guling, Lancing, and Selong Belanak.

"The Bau Nyale location was carried out at several points in the Central Lombok Regency area," he said.
