Students Hold KPK Front Action, Urge To Immediately Hold Hasto Kristiyanto

JAKARTA - Dozens of students and youth who are members of the Nusantara Student and Youth Coalition (KMPN) held a demonstration in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Building, Jakarta, Monday, February 10.

They demanded that the KPK immediately detain Hasto Kristiyanto, who has been named a suspect by the KPK in the alleged bribery case of interim replacement (PAW) members of the DPR who also ensnared the PDI-P candidate (PDIP) as well as a fugitive, Harun Masiku.

In their oration, the demonstrators said that in the pretrial hearing, the KPK had clearly disclosed Hasto's involvement in the case.

"Hasto not only played a role in bribery, but also actively obstructed the KPK investigation. This is a real form of resistance to the law that must be dealt with immediately!" shouted one of the action orators.

They also highlighted the various steps that Hasto took to avoid legal entanglement, including ordering Harun Masiku to submerge his cellphone so that evidence would disappear, regulate witness statements, and use his network in the police and the KPK to hinder investigations.

"KPK must prove that they still have guts! Don't be afraid to take action against Hasto and his network," added an action participant.

In addition to demanding Hasto's arrest, the demonstrators also brought a number of other demands related to major corruption cases which have not yet been completed.

They highlighted the alleged involvement of a number of figures in various corruption scandals, ranging from e-KTP cases (Rp 2.3 trillion), COVID-19 social assistance (Rp 6.8 trillion), to Central Java Bank credit gratuities that dragged Ganjar Pranowo's name.

"We will not remain silent! All of these cases must be thoroughly investigated. The KPK, the Police, and the Attorney General's Office should not be selective in eradicating corruption!" they exclaimed.

The demonstration was peaceful, with strict security from the police. Before dispersing, they burned banners and the demonstrators conveyed their three main demands, urging the KPK to immediately arrest Hasto Kristiyanto, asked the National Police Headquarters to investigate and try Hasto Kristiyanto, and demanded that the Attorney General's Office immediately arrest and imprison Hasto Kristiyanto.

The students and young men promised to continue to oversee this case until justice is truly upheld.

"We will return with a bigger action if these demands are not met!" said the action coordinator before dispersing the crowd.
