JAKARTA - The head of the Pramono Anung-Rano Karno transition team, Ima Mahdiah, opened his voice about the adjustment of clean water tariffs in Jakarta which had been going on since early January 2025.

According to Ima, who is also the Deputy Chair of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, the DKI Provincial Government's decision to increase water rates has received recommendations from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Based on the discussion between the Pramono-Rano transition team and Perumda PAM Jaya, the water tariff in Jakarta has not increased since 2007.

"Earlier we discussed the increase. There were also instructions from the KPK and Kajati as well, because it has not increased for 18 years," Ima told reporters, Thursday, February 6.

This water tariff adjustment has drawn rejection from a number of people who live in apartments. They feel that this new tariff is too high. However, Ima assessed that this is a form of control to apartment managers who apparently still use groundwater but are subject to PAM rates for their residents.

"But that turned out to be a lot of PPRS, yes, apartments and so on, half took PAM and half took ground water. But they used tariffs from PAM. This should have been put in order first," said Ima.

To the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government and PAM Jaya as providers of piped water services, Ima hopes that socialization regarding the policy of increasing water rates can be carried out more massively to all apartment residents so that this policy does not cause confusion.

"Well, this loss has finally become a finding in law enforcement officials. Now that must be explained earlier. There may be elements, Sir, in these areas that must be immediately resolved and must be explained in detail to the residents of all apartments," explained Ima.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PAM Jaya, Arief Nasrudin, said that his party plans to install water meters for each apartment unit so that the use of water is recorded more transparently.

"Alhamdulillah, there is a solution, actually we have discussed it. Really, this is our input or input later, our idea can be accepted, so there is no issue about the tariff problem that will be carried out in the apartment," explained Arief.

Previously, the Chairman of the P3RSI Central Management Board (DPP), Adjit Lauhatta, questioned the basis for determining the same tariff for apartments and other commercial buildings. In a letter received from PAM Jaya, the water tariff for apartments is likened to a high-rise commercial building and a shopping center, which is IDR 21,500 per cubic meter.

"The function and designation are different. Apartments are residential areas, while commercial buildings and shopping centers focus on economic activities," said Adjit, some time ago.

P3RSI submitted a request for further clarification regarding this matter, because the high tariff is considered to be able to burden apartment residents who generally have residential status, not for commercial purposes.
