JAKARTA - Ukraine has accused Russian spies of masterminding several bomb attacks at its military service office.

A new explosion on Wednesday, February 5, killed one person and injured four others at a military service center in the western part of the country.

The explosion in the Khmelnytskyi region was the latest in a series of incidents involving military service offices and military service officers. One of the officers was shot dead at a gas station last week.

"We understand that this is a deliberate attack by Russian special services aimed at creating wrong opinions in society, disrupting the situation and creating a negative attitude towards security and defense forces," said national police chief Ivan Vyhivskyi.

He did not provide evidence of Russia's involvement, although the information was generally kept secret for security reasons.

In an incident on Wednesday, a man approached a checkpoint at a military service office in the Khmelnytskyi region, holding a bag and asked to hand over the package.

The explosion then occurred, killing the man and injuring four others.

Vyhivskyi said there had been nine attacks organized by Russia this year, including three attacks targeting police officers. He did not specify individual cases and what their involvement was.

He said Russian intelligence officers recruited youths or people "low social responsibility" to launch attacks in exchange for money.

"Russia in many cases doesn't pay money to these people. What's more, these last two cases, including those that happened today, show that they liquidated the people they recruited," Vyhivskyi said.
