JAKARTA - The Metro Jaya Regional Police's Narcotics Investigation Team arrested a Nigerian citizen with the initials FUO for allegedly bringing in 5,385 ecstasy pills via post from Germany.

"This is the result of cooperation between Metro Jaya Police and friends from Customs and Excise because this item is ecstasy, the number of which is 5,385 items sent via post from Germany to East Pademangan, North Jakarta," said Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police Grand Commissioner Yusri Yunus as quoted by Antara, Monday, April 19.

Grand Commissioner Yusri explained that FUO's arrest began with the Customs and Excise's findings regarding a postal package from abroad containing ecstasy narcotics.

The findings were then forwarded to Metro Jaya Police, who then carried out a surveillance of the package and succeeded in securing the package pick-up.

"We traced a report and at that time we secured a woman at the Pademangan Post Office, North Jakarta, whose contents were ecstasy. This (pick-up package) with the initials V claimed to have been ordered by FUO," said Yusri.

Armed with evidence and V's statement, the police then managed to arrest FUO at his apartment in Sunter, North Jakarta.

After an intensive examination, the police then named FUO as a suspect for his role in bringing in the illegal goods, while V is still under intensive investigation to learn about his role in the drug case.

Police will also continue to work with Customs authorities to investigate possible similar shipments from abroad.

"Is this the first shipment or a continuation because this item is not made in Indonesia, it is recognized from Germany, we are still investigating. Whether there is a second, third or fourth shipment, this is still being explored," he concluded.

The suspect FUO was charged under Article 114 subsidiary to Article 112 of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics.
