AMBON - The South Buru Regency Police (Polres) managed to secure a man with the initials IM (32) who claimed to be a member of the National Police to deceive a woman from Namlea. The term Hello deck is attached to fake police who deceive women for personal gain

"The method is that the perpetrator disguised himself as a member of the police station on duty at the South Buru Police Station to attract the victim's heart," said South Buru Police Chief M. Agung Gumilar as reported by ANTARA, Friday, January 24.

This fraud case stems from the perpetrator who got acquainted with the victim by telephone and said that he was a member of the National Police and worked at the South Buru Police Station until he finally met him in person.

After the meeting, the perpetrator IM (32) began to dare to borrow money, because of persuasion from the perpetrator who claimed to have paid him for a month as a member of the police amounting to Rp10 million.

The police chief revealed that the arrests were carried out without a fight on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The proceeds from the crimes committed by the suspect were used to buy his personal motorcycle equipment.

Agung said such a mode only occurred in South Buru Regency and the perpetrators would be dealt with firmly so that incidents like this did not happen again.

"This fraud mode is fairly new here, we hope that people do not easily believe in individuals on behalf of Polri personnel and start borrowing money, because it is definitely a fraud. and if something like this is found, it should be reported to us immediately," asked the Police Chief.

Currently, the perpetrator IM (32) is being held at the Namrole Police Rutan for further processing to gather information if there are other fraud victims.

He was charged with articles related to identity abuse and fraud, with the threat of maximum punishment in accordance with applicable laws.

This case is an important reminder for the public to always verify the identity of the apparatus on behalf of state institutions.
