JAKARTA - Member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD William Aditya Sarana urged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to immediately use the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) budget allocation to build fire stations.
This is in response to complaints from the DKI Gulkarmat Service which admit that the number of fire posts in Jakarta is not yet ideal. In fact, William said that the budget disbursed to the DKI Gulkarmat Service was quite large, namely Rp. 1.5 trillion.
"This is a big problem. This means that there are several areas that have not been properly reached by the fire department. The provincial government must pay attention here and again intensify the construction of fire stations," William said in his statement, Friday, January 24.
According to William, the DKI Provincial Government must ensure the budget provided for the prevention of fires. Given, from the number of fire cases in early 2025, the public will increasingly demand the safety of fires in Jakarta.
"The amount of money budgeted for yesterday is not small. It should be the capital to increase community preparedness, especially through firefighters to anticipate and deal with fires," he explained.
On the one hand, William also emphasized the importance of community involvement in efforts to deal with fires. However, they also need tools to extinguish the fire. Thus, the provincial government must also provide the equipment.
"At least, the government must build an independent hydrant that can be used by the general public to extinguish fires at the first time the fire appears in the area," he said.
Previously, Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Gulkarmat Service, Satriadi Gunawan, admitted that so far not all sub-districts in Jakarta have fire stations. The lack of fire posts, he admitted, affects the speed of response time for officers every time they receive reports of fire cases.

"We only have 170 fire stations from 267 urban villages. So indeed, in the mandate of regional regulations there must be 267 urban villages," said Satriadi.
In addition, the number of firefighters (damkar) in Jakarta is still minimal. In fact, in the Jakarta area, around 10 thousand DKI Jakarta Gulkarmat officers are needed to be alert and tasked with extinguishing fires. However, in reality, the number of firefighters is only half of the need.
"Indeed, in terms of personnel, we are still lacking," he said.
