Minister Of Manpower Ida Fauziyah Asks Indonesian Migrant Workers To Postpone 2021 Eid Homecoming

JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah asked Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) who are currently in placement countries to postpone their homecoming for Eid this year.

"Of course there are many migrant workers who want to go home because they miss their families, mothers, fathers, children, and other relatives in their hometowns. On this occasion, I really hope, asking that the intention to go home is postponed first," said Minister of Manpower, Ida as quoted from Antara, Monday, April 19.

Ida said that although steps to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic were continuing and the vaccination program was still running, the situation in the country was not yet fully conducive.

In addition, time-consuming travel from the country of placement to Indonesia will increase the potential for transmission of COVID-19 to PMIs.

"The possibility of contracting COVID19 on the way is still very large, because of the long flight to Indonesia. It is a pity if the families in the village are affected later," said Ida.

In addition, if the homecoming is over, there is a possibility that the placement country will not allow Indonesian workers to re-enter. If they are allowed to pass, they also have very strict requirements, such as carrying out a PCR test and quarantine for several weeks.

Therefore, Ida asked migrant workers to be patient and take advantage of technology to communicate with families in virtual spaces to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr 2021.

"Apologies to mothers and fathers in the village can be via video call or telephone. Eid money for children can be transferred, gifts for them can be sent via post. There are many safe ways to show our love and pleasure to the family," Ida stressed.

Previously, the Minister of Manpower Ida issued Circular No. M/7/HK.04/OV/2021 concerning Restriction of Eid Al-Fitr 1442 Hijriah Homecoming Activities for Workers/Laborers and PMI in Efforts to Control the Spread of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) published on April 16, 2021.

In the circular addressed to governors and various related parties, the Minister of Manpower appealed to private workers and PMI not to go homecoming during the period 6-17 May 2021. This is in accordance with the previous government ban.
