PGA Says 260 Eruptions Occurred On Mount Dukono

TERNATE - The Volcano Observation Post (PGA) of Dukono in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, said that on January 16, 2025, there were 260 eruptions with a volcanic ash height of 100-800 meters above the peak of Mount Dukono.

"Last Thursday from 00: 01 to 23.59 Wit, 260 eruptions were observed with a height of 100-800 meters and a color of white and gray smoke," said PGA Dukono Post officer Sarjan Roboke in a written statement received in Ternate, Antara, Friday, January 17.

The crater smoke on Mount Dukono is being observed to be white and gray with a thick intensity and a height of 100-800 meters above the crater peak.

He explained, for crater activity, the surface of the Dukono Volcano was clearly observed - 0I fog, gray white smoke, with a column height of ash from 100 - 800 meters, and moderate smoke pressure leaning towards the Southwest.

Meanwhile, the weather is sunny and cloudy. The wind is blowing weakly to the southwest. The temperature is 25-30 degrees Celsius and humidity is 61-63 percent.

He revealed that currently the condition of the volcano as high as 1,087 meters above sea level is Level II or Alert.

"People around Mount Dukono and visitors should not do activities, climb and approach the Maupang Warirang crater within a 4 kilometer radius," he said.

He stated that eruptions with volcanic ash periodically occurred and the spread of ash followed the direction and speed of the wind, so that the area of the ash did not remain.

"People around Mount Dukono should always provide masks for use when needed to avoid the threat of volcanic ash in the respiratory system," he said.

Mount Dokuno noted that on January 16, 2025, there were 260 eruptions with a volcanic ash height of 100-800 meters.
