Power Plant to Water Installations in Kuwait Targeted by Iran

JAKARTA - The government of Kuwait stated that Iran targeted a number of desalination facilities and power plants in Kuwait. This is the fourth consecutive day of attacks on vital infrastructure in the Arab country.

The fires that had occurred at several facilities as a result of the attack have now been brought under control, according to a statement from the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy in Kuwait, reported by CNN, Tuesday, July 21. Several generators were said to have been shut down.

Kuwait has accused Iran of targeting its power plants and desalination facilities several times over the past week.

Desalination meets about 90% of the country's clean water needs.

In the neighboring country, Bahrain, sirens were sounded to warn residents of the Iranian attack and urge them to immediately head to the nearest safe place. It is not yet known exactly what damage was caused by the attack.

The Jordanian armed forces said their air defense systems intercepted and shot down three Iranian missiles targeting the kingdom on Tuesday.

The three countries are among those most frequently targeted by Iran since tensions between Tehran and Washington flared again this month.
