East Java Police Set Bus Driver From Bali Rem Blong Suspect In Deadly Accident In Batu

The East Java Regional Police have named the driver of the tourism bus number DK 7942 GB with the initials MAS (30) as a suspect in a series of accidents that caused four people to die in Batu City.

Dirlantas Polda Jatim Kombes Komarudin said investigators applied Article 311 paragraph 3, paragraph 4, and paragraph 5 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2022 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation.

"In the event of an act of deliberately driving a vehicle that endangers the safety of others and causes material losses, minor injuries, serious injuries, and deaths with a threat of 12 years in prison," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 10.

During the deepening process, it was found that the bus driver had experienced irregularities in the braking system while traveling from the activity location to return to Bali.

It turned out that from the examination carried out by the Department of Transportation, it was found that the right and left brake camps, as well as damaged thromols.

"This causes the braking system to not be optimal," he said.

Komarudin explained that before departure on January 4, 2025, preparations had been made, including the driver conducting an examination.

"Just conducting an outside examination. He doesn't know the condition of the camp," said the former Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief.

Even though there was already one suspect, he made sure to continue the investigation because there was a fact that there was an administrative violation in the form of a dead STNK and an expired KIR.
