President Prabowo Instructs Accelerate Downstream Fisheries To Coal

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto ordered the Head of the Task Force (Satgas) for the Acceleration of National Downstreaming and Energy Security Bahlil Lahadalia to accelerate downstreaming in the fisheries, forestry, agriculture, oil and gas sectors, to minerals and coal.

"The direction of Mr. President Prabowo, in several meetings with us, he will encourage the downstreaming of all sectors, there are 26'28' commodities that will be encouraged," said Bahlil when met at the Office of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, Friday, January 10, which was confiscated by Antara.

Bahlil admitted that so far, the government's attention regarding downstreaming has been focused on nickel commodities. However, that does not mean that other commodities do not downstream.

"The melting of copper is now running. Then bauxite. Then we encourage (hilirization) tin commodities. We are also pushing oil and gas," said Bahlil.

Regarding coal downstreaming, Bahlil explained that the government is trying to produce DME (dimethyl ether) to replace LPG.

"Now we want to push again for the construction of DME. We encourage the former PKP2B to carry out downstreaming," said Bahlil.

The former PKP2B is a former mining land originating from the Coal Mining Concession Work Agreement (PKP2B).

"Including downstreaming in other industries, we also encourage fisheries, agriculture, forestry," he said.

The urge to downstream aims to create sufficient jobs. Through downstreaming, Bahlil believes that created jobs can provide high wages.

"If it's downstream, don't talk about UMR. If the UMR is labor-intensive. Downstreaming is also labor-intensive, but the salary is high," said Bahlil.

Thus, not only increasing the value of the commodities traded, national per capita income can also increase.

President Prabowo Subianto officially formed the National Energy Downstream and Resilience Acceleration Task Force led by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia and consists of a number of ministers and institutional leaders.

Presidential Decree Number 1 of 2025, which was accessed from the official website of the State Secretariat in Jakarta, Friday, explained that the formation of the task force aims to accelerate downstreaming in various sectors and accelerate the realization of national energy security.

The Presidential Decree, which was signed by President Prabowo on Friday (3/1), stated that the acceleration of downstreaming targets sectors such as minerals and coal, oil and gas, agriculture, forestry, and marine and fisheries. Downstream in these sectors aims to increase the added value of domestically produced commodities.
