KPK: Law Enforcement Is Not Viewed From The Regime Leading The Country But From Facts

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Johanis Tanak confirmed that the determination of the Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect in the alleged bribery of interim replacement management (PAW) members of the DPR RI and the obstruction of the investigation was in accordance with the facts. This process has nothing to do with the leading regime.

This was conveyed by Johanis in response to the statement by the Chairman of the PDIP DPP for Legal Reform Ronny B. Talapessy who said that the KPK is currently in the hands of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This is because the name of the leader for the 2024-2029 period was chosen by the former Governor of DKI Jakarta before stepping down and being maintained by President Prabowo Subianto.

"Law enforcement is not seen from the regime that leads the country but is seen from the facts of actions committed by people or corporations that are against the rule of law," Johanis said when contacted by VOI, Friday, January 10.

Even so, Johanis invited anyone to express their opinion. "As long as it's not in a context that is against the law," he said.

Ronny Talapessy initially said there was information that had said Hasto was targeted. This politician even had to be detained before the implementation of this year's party congress.

"We heard information that the Secretary General of the PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto is targeted to be detained before the PDI-P Congress which will take place in the near future," said PDIP DPP chairman Ronny Talapessy in a press conference for the legal team at the PDIP Menteng DPP office, Central Jakarta, Thursday, January 9.

The detention aims to disrupt the party's consolidation process and silencing, continued Ronny. The goal is that the party bearing the symbol of a white-nosed bull is no longer critical of Jokowi who damaged democracy at the end of his power.

"All processes from the summons, confiscation of personal property, suspects, and search of the residence of the Secretary General of Hasto Kristiyanto, we value that they do not show pure efforts for the sake of law enforcement, but are part of a series of political operations with disruptive, chaotic targets, internal parties ahead of Congress," he explained.

This lawyer then mentioned how Jokowi continued to offer the names of the 10 leaders of the anti-corruption commission before stepping down. In fact, this step was criticized by a number of parties because this process should have been carried out by President Prabowo Subianto.

"At the end of his reign, former President Joko Widodo ignored public criticism, both from former commissioners, former investigators, academics, media, and other civil society to stop the selection process and hand it over to the Prabowo government who are just waiting a little more time to be sworn in," said Ronny.

"The day after being inaugurated, the Jokowi edition of the KPK immediately worked to carry out a criminalization agenda, in the form of forced punishment against the PDI-P through Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto because he spoke critically about the democratic damage that Jokowi had done," he added.

Previously reported, the KPK developed an interim replacement bribery (PAW) case that ensnared former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and his fugitive, Harun Masiku.

Two people were later named as suspects, namely PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and Donny Tri Istiqomah who are PDIP cadres as well as lawyers.

It didn't stop there, Hasto was also a suspect in the obstruction of the investigation. He is suspected of trying to obstruct the legal process, one of which is by asking Harun to damage his cellphone and run away after the hand arrest operation (OTT) was carried out.
