JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said investigators used to carry suitcases during a search. This is because there are equipment that needs to be brought for this activity.
This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardhika when asked about the suitcase brought by investigators while searching the house of PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto in Bekasi, West Java on Tuesday, January 7.
"Regarding the suitcase that in carrying out its duties, investigators, especially searches, yes, investigators also brought equipment ranging from documentation tools, vests, administration, and it was also stored in a suitcase," said Tessa to reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, January 8.
"So if there is a capture or question why you have to bring it even though the contents (of the search results, ed) are only a few, yes, because the default of the equipment brought by the investigator must be stored in a suitcase," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Director of Investigation of the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, said that the use of suitcases was aimed at maintaining the safety of confiscated goods.
"If we put it in plastic, right, it will be prone to being left behind, falling, and others. So the most suitable thing to use is to carry, yes, suitcases," he asserted.
Asep emphasized that the KPK did not issue a statement that the confiscated goods were inside or filled with suitcases. "Never, but investigators will keep the confiscated items in a safe place or storage area," said Asep.

Previously reported, the KPK was asked to be professional in handling allegations of bribery in the management of interim replacement (PAW) members of the DPR and the obstruction of the investigation that ensnared PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto. The chairman of the PDIP DPP for Legal Reform Ronny B. Talapesy even highlighted the evidence found.
"We need to convey that in the two searches there was no significant evidence related to the case. During the search in Bekasi, the confiscated items were 1 USB and 1 notebook belonging to Kusnadi (Hasto Kristiyanto staff)," said Ronny in a written statement, Tuesday, January 8.
"Meanwhile, during the search in Kebagusan, no items were confiscated," he continued.
This condition made Ronny question the suitcase brought by investigators from Hasto's house.
"We don't know if it contains any contents or is empty," he said.
According to him, it doesn't make sense when investigators only confiscate flash drives and small books but use suitcases.
"Our client has never felt like he owns or uses the USB confiscated by the KPK," said Ronny.
