Keeping Public Trust, Commission II Of The DPR Asks The MK To Be Neutral In Handling Pilkada Disputes

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI from the Gerindra faction, Bahtra Banong, reminded the Constitutional Court (MK) to maintain legal constitutionality regarding the resolution of disputes over the results of the 2024 regional head general election results (PHPU).

According to Bahtra, the Constitutional Court must decide cases based on the principles regulated in the constitution so that public trust is maintained.

"We hope that the Constitutional Court will decide cases based on the principles as regulated in the constitution, and become constitutional guards for the sake of upholding our legal constitutionality," said Bahtra, Wednesday, January 8.

On the other hand, the legislator for the Southeast Sulawesi electoral district also emphasized the public to respect the Constitutional Court's decision as a form of maturity in democracy.

"Whatever the Constitutional Court decides regarding the results of the candidate pairs' lawsuits, we must respect them well," said Bahtra.

Bahtra hopes that the constitutional judge will maintain his neutrality in order to ensure public trust in the institution.

"In order for public trust in the Constitutional Court to be well maintained. And we believe that constitutional judges have high integrity," he concluded.

As is known, the inaugural trial of the 2024 regional head PHPU case starts today. Based on MK data, as many as 310 cases have been registered, consisting of 23 cases of PHPU governor and deputy governor, 49 cases of PHPU mayor and deputy mayor, as well as 238 cases of PHPU regent and deputy regent.

The PHPU case trial used a panel mechanism, in which nine Constitutional Justices were divided into three panels, each consisting of three judges.

The composition of the panel of judges is as follows:

Panel I: Constitutional Justice Suhartoyo, Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh, and M. Guntur Hamzah.

Panel II: Constitutional Justices Saldi Isra, Arsul Sani, and Ridwan Mansyur.

Panel III: Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat, Enny Nurbaningsih, and Anwar Usman.
