JAKARTA - Israeli Defense Minister Katz threatened Hamas with "an attack with an unprecedented force in Gaza so far" if the Palestinian militant group did not release the hostages it had held for the past 14 months and did not stop rocket fire at Israel.
"If Hamas does not immediately allow the release of Israeli hostages from Gaza, although Israel is willing to make broad compromises in accordance with the principles outlined by the President of the United States, and continues to fire on the Israeli community, then Hamas will face attacks with unprecedented powers in Gaza so far," Defense Minister Katz said during a visit to Kota, Netivot, as reported by The Times of Israel on January 2.
In the middle of last night, Hamas launched two rockets into Netivot, which caused no damage or injury.
"IDF (Israeli military) will intensify its activities against terror dens in Gaza until the hostages are released and Hamas removed," Katz stressed.
"I call on Gazans to rise up against the Hamas assassination organization, which also uses you as a human shield, and to free the hostages, to prevent suffering and end the war," he added.
It is known that the latest conflict in Gaza broke out after a Palestinian militant group led by Hamas attacked Israel's southern region, killing about 1,200 people and holding 250 others hostage, according to Israeli calculations.
