Kajati Considers Kajari Kediri's Action To Open Fire Into The Air When Arguing With Motorcyclists Is Right

Head of the East Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kajati) Mia Amiati stated that the actions of the Head of the Kediri District Attorney's Office, Pradhana Probo Setyarjo, issued warning shots into the air when the two motorists intercepted them.

"The Head of Kediri did this because he was in a state of urgency and was threatened when he was confronted by two members of a non-governmental organization (NGO) with the initials HFL and AM," Mia Amiati said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, December 27.

Previously, on Monday (12/23) at 20.30 WIB on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Kediri, Kajari, Kediri Regency was traveling with his family.

On the way, he was intercepted by two unknown motorcyclists and was finally identified with the initials HFL (33), a resident of Dalem Village, and AM, a resident of Mojo sub-district, who was suspected of committing acts that threatened his safety.

In this situation, the Head of Kediri Regency felt the need to take measured measures for self-protection by firing warning shots into the air.

"In accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of security that applies to law enforcement officers. This action is taken as a step to anticipate a greater potential danger," Mia said.

He explained that in the Indonesian Prosecutor's Regulation Number 1 2023 concerning the Governance of Firearms Article 9 Letter b, prosecutors can use firearms under certain circumstances.

"So, prosecutors can use it when pressed, save themselves or others in a threatened condition, cannot do (a rescue) with other actions," he said.

Mia explained that Kajari Kediri had been followed from the start by two perpetrators after leaving the restaurant with her family. Allegedly the motive is that the two perpetrators do not like official vehicles that are used for operations at night outside of work hours.

"(The two perpetrators) were drunk in pursuit. The police stated that they did not like the red plate going out at night," he said.

As a result of the incident, Kajari Kediri was injured in his hands and feet. In addition, his son was traumatized.

"My son admits that he is polite, he is not adventurous, and there is no problem with other people," he said.

Even so, Mia emphasized that the East Java Prosecutor's Office had coordinated with the police to follow up on this incident thoroughly and transparently.

"We are committed to supporting every legal step needed to ensure the facts on the ground are clearly revealed," he said.

He also asked the public not to spread information that had not been confirmed regarding this incident.

"We will continue to provide official information periodically to the public in order to maintain public transparency and trust in the Prosecutor's Office," he said.
