Ship Contains 20 Fishermen Drowning In Banggai, Central Sulawesi, Basarnas Deploys Ships For Evacuation

The Palu Basarnas Office deployed KN SAR Bhisam 239 to evaluate 20 fishermen who had shipping accidents in Luwuk Waters, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng).

"We received the report that a fishing boat sank by loading 20 crew members. Based on this report, we sent assistance to a special SAR ship to evacuate victims," said Head of the Palu Basarnas Andrias Hendrik Johanes in Palu, Thursday, December 19, confiscated by Antara.

He said the incident occurred on Thursday in the waters of North Luwuk District, while the ship was active in fishing at around 05.14 WITA, at that time there was a technical problem so the ship sank.

The report was received by his party at around 06.58 WITA. The family and local residents also conducted a search at a location where the accident was suspected to have occurred, but to no avail, so Basarnas deployed a special SAR ship to assist in the search.

"About 16 personnel from the Bhisam SAR KN crew were involved in the search and rescue operation for the sinking fishing boat, potential from others," he said.

He revealed that the SAR operation involved the crew of the SAR KN Bhisam, the Luwuk Marine and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP) authorities, the TNI-AL, the village government and the local community.

In the search process supported by communication equipment, water rescue equipment, medical equipment, GPS and other supporting SAR equipment.

"The victim was successfully evacuated and all of them are in good health," said Andrias.
