Garut Regent, Barnas Adjidin, directly inspected the areas affected by the 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Garut Regency, West Java to ensure efforts to handle it quickly, starting from data collection, logistical assistance and repair of damaged buildings.
"We see several places that must receive quick treatment immediately," said Barnas while reviewing areas affected by the earthquake in Sukaresmi District, Garut, Antara, Sunday, December 8.
The earthquake, which was located in Southwest Garut on Saturday morning, caused a number of damage to houses and public facilities in several sub-districts, including Sukaresmi District.
Barnas said that it had instructed a number of agencies, especially from the Garut Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to immediately respond quickly and appropriately to earthquake victims.
"Therefore, I ask all levels of government to record in detail," he said.
He emphasized that his party had collected data on residents' houses that were accurately damaged, and then the local government took quick steps to resolve them.
Especially, he continued, the condition of residents' houses that are no longer livable will be repaired immediately because they are worried about endangering their residents such as being hit by house building materials.
"It shouldn't take too long, there must be assistance needed, for example this house, this is no longer suitable to be occupied, because if it is occupied I am afraid that it will happen to the occupants," he said.
Regarding the budget allocation for disaster management, he said, it could be used from the unexpected budget (BTT), but to issue BTT funds there are rules that must be obeyed, one of which must be an emergency response determination.
"So, we will discuss it with all officers in Garut Regency whether this is an emergency response condition or not," he said.
Temporary reports from the Garut BPBD that the impact of the earthquake caused 113 houses to be damaged spread across seven sub-districts, namely Bayongbong, Tarogong Kaler, Sukaresmi, Cikajang, Samarang, Pasirwangi, and Cisurupan sub-districts.
