Floods Hit Sukabumi, DMC Dompet Dhuafa Evacuates Affected Residents

SUKABUMI - Disaster Management Center (DMC) Dompet Dhuafa and Dompet Dhuafa West Java deployed a volunteer team to help deal with floods that hit a number of areas in Sukabumi, West Java, by evacuating affected residents trapped in floodwaters, Bojong Tipar Village, Central Jampang District, on Thursday afternoon (5/12/2024).

We moved to help residents cross the flood for activities to schools, markets, and others by boat kayak. In the middle of helping residents cross, we also evacuated survivors who had a diagnosis of heart problems who were going to go for outpatient treatment at the hospital, "reported Resda Jaya Pangestu, the DMC Dompet Dhuafa response team who was at the location affected by the flood.

As many as 40 people were successfully evacuated by the DMC Dompet Dhuafa volunteer team, including a patient with a diagnosis of heart disease who needed immediate medical action. The team managed to evacuate patients from the flood site to a safer place using rubber boats and ambulances.

In addition, the team also evacuated residents who were about to cross between Pasir Laja Village and Cimerang Village as a priority, considering that the connecting road between the two villages was submerged in water with a height of up to 1.5 meters.

"Currently, the DMC Dompet Dhuafa response team is trying to move to the affected areas which are quite severe, namely in the Sagaranten District," added Resda.

Rain for two consecutive days in Sukabumi, West Java triggered floods, landslides and land movement.

Floods that inundated also closed many access roads, one of which was road access to Sagaranten District which was flooded as high as 2 meters.

From the release statement, the Head of the Ratu Port Police (Kapolsek), Commissioner of Police Roni Haryanto, explained that the flood water in a number of Sukabumi areas was caused by the overflow of the Cisawo and Cigangsa rivers.

Not only floods, at the same time landslides and ground movements were affected in 18 areas.

A landslide occurred in Sangrawayang Village, Simpenan District; Sirnaresmi Village, Cisolok District; Babakan Panjang Village, Nagrak District; Cibaregbeg Village, Sagaranten District; Loji Village, Simpenan District; Palabuhanratu Village, Palabuhanratu District, Palabuhanratu District.

There are also similar incidents in Hegarmamah Village, Warungkiara District; as well as Lengkong Village, Lengkong District.

The land movement incident was reported in four locations, namely Sukamaju Village, Cikembar District; Bantargadung Village, Bantargadung District. Two other locations are in Bantargadung Village, Bantargadung District.

The series of disaster events occurred after most of the SUkabumi area was rained heavily with a long duration from Tuesday (3/12) afternoon to Wednesday (4/12) morning.
