JAKARTA - The Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (Kemendes PDT) will form a special task force (task force) to protect Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in villages.

"Later we will also form a special task force, in the pockets of the village so that there are no brokers, fraudsters, or profit takers (from PMI) but illegally," said Village Minister (Mendes) PDT Yandri Susanto at the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting on Strengthening Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement and Protection Governance, as monitored through the Ministry of Home Affairs' YouTube channel (Kemendagri) in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 3, confiscated by Antara.

According to Yandri, brokers or fraudsters related to PMI roaming the villages and luring potential victims about jobs abroad can harm the national security system and border integrity.

These broker services, he said, could have serious consequences, such as victims will experience difficulties in obtaining legal immigration status, the risk of being deported, or even being prosecuted.

In addition to forming a special task force, Yandri said the Kemendes PDT would also instruct the village government to make regulations related to PMI, both regarding protection and training.

"Village regulations are needed for villages that have the main pockets of sources from migrant workers to produce regulations that are not discriminatory and do not make it difficult," he said.

The former Deputy Chairperson of the MPR RI assessed that PMI's protection measures are important because PMI has a crucial role for the country. They, he continued, are not only foreign exchange heroes, but also strategic political social forces at home and abroad.

So far Yandri views that the foreign exchange contribution given by Indonesian migrant workers is very large and is expected to be the concern of many parties, both at the central and regional levels, so that they are facilitated and enlarged from departure to destination countries or after returning to Indonesia.

"God willing, we will reduce everything that is negative and enlarge something positive, so that from leaving for the destination country, to returning to the country, they are truly respected," said Yandri.
