The Importance Of The State Present To Build The Resilience Of Community Families

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, highlighted the issue of family resilience considering that recently there have been many family vulnerabilities that end up in the criminal realm. He also emphasized the importance of state presence creating stable conditions in the community to ensure family resilience is obtained by all Indonesian people.

"Families are the main foundation in shaping a strong and stable child's mentality where family should be the safest place for children's growth and development," said Puan, Monday, December 2.

He said, the role of the family in maintaining the emotional and psychological well-being of children is very important. Families must be a space for protection and education that prepares children to face life with a healthy and strong mentality.

"Families are the first school for children. From families, they learn about values, morals, and how to deal with life pressure. When this function does not work well, the impact can be very destructive," he said.

When the family fails to provide a safe and stable environment, according to Puan, the impact will not only be felt by the family members but also by the wider community. He highlighted the many cases of family vulnerability such as children who were involved in drugs, online gambling, fights, the phenomenon of divorce and murder between families.

As in the case of a 14-year-old child who killed his father and grandmother, and injured his mother in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, for claiming to have received a whisper before carrying out his heinous act. The boy with the initials MAS is known to be a child who gets the warmth of his family and is known to be a good child.

Puan assessed that incidents like this need attention because children who come from stable families are not impossible to commit acts of violence.

"Investigations must be carried out in depth so that the root of the problem can be known and what is the cause of this incident," he said.

According to Puan, clarity from the root cause of the problem can be used as material for assistance for perpetrators of MAS children. In addition, evaluation can be carried out on a wider matter related to family resilience in the community.

"And so that incidents like this don't happen again, including an anticipation of violence involving children in the household," said Puan.

Puan also reminded the importance of increasing character education for children in formal education. He also asked the Government to develop and issue policies or regulations that support family welfare, such as parental leave, education subsidies, and social welfare programs that must be a priority in the national agenda.

"The government must also ensure that families in remote and marginal areas get adequate support. Because the future of the family is the future of the nation," said Puan.

Puan assessed that family vulnerability was created because of many factors, both because of the internal family itself, as well as external factors such as social inequality problems, economic factors, education, health and so on.

"So the presence of the State, especially the Government as the implementer of the budget program, is very important. How does the Government provide welfare for the community to ensure stability in each family," he said.

Puan reminded that family resilience is the family's ability to survive and recover from the pressures, challenges, and crises that may be faced. If family resilience is formed strongly, these conditions can create individuals who are emotionally and psychologically stable, and are able to be protectors and balancers in dealing with crises.

"The government needs to hold a parenting education program that reaches all levels of society, especially families who are economically and socially vulnerable," said Puan.

"This program must provide an understanding of the importance of healthy communication, emotional management, and how to deal with conflicts in the family," continued the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.
