German Chancellor Promises Military Aid To Ukraine And Enters NATO When Visiting Kyiv

JAKARTA - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced he would provide military assistance to Ukraine on a visit to Kyiv today, Monday, December 2.

Quoting Reuters, Monday, December 2, Scholz vowed Germany would become Ukraine's biggest supporter in Europe and promised to deliver US$683 million or US$650 million in military aid this month.

Scholz's second visit since Russia's massive invasion of Ukraine nearly three years ago marked German support amid the uncertainty of the situation ahead of President-elect Donald Trump taking over the White House and the moment Russian troops acquire territorial territory.

Scholz will hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss Germany's push for Ukraine to join the NATO military alliance at a meeting in Brussels this week.

Scholz's visit was also carried out ahead of the heated re-election at an impromptu vote in Germany in February 2025. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's coalition was dispersed in November 2024.
