Minister Of Law: Transfer Of Prisoners To Their Home Country For Humanity

JAKARTA - Minister of Law Supratman Andi Atgas said that the approval of the transfer of a number of prisoners (prisoners) to their country of origin was based on humanitarian considerations.

"The president reminded us that this is a consideration, because of humanitarian considerations," said Minister of Law Supratman at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Monday, November 25.

He said the government also did this because Indonesia had citizens who were outside, who happened to have problems with the law.

"So that in the future, we are still thinking about whether we produce laws related to the transfer mechanism or just using the Mutual Legal Assistance. If that's a bilateral agreement between countries. So the mutual legal agreement between countries. So it's easier," he said.

On the other hand, Supratman told all friendly state governments that have citizens, who happen to be assisted citizens in Indonesia, are also obliged to write letters to the Indonesian government.

"The conditions that we convey, once again, are one, that they must recognize, regarding our legal system and the ongoing judicial process," he explained.

The government has approved and reviewed the transfer of prisoners from the Philippines Mary Jane Folos and five Australian inmates who are members of "Bali Nine".

The application for the transfer of prisoners is also being submitted by several other friendly countries to the Indonesian government.

"The first time we make a Mutual Legal Assistance. Therefore, just wait for Mary Jane. Because it's not only about Mary Jane, but also about some citizens like those from France who have applied to us. The UK (England) Ambassador also we are talking about that. So we just have to wait," said Supratman.
