Kabareskrim: 619 Online Gambling Cases Revealed, 734 People Become Suspects

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Komjen Wahyu Widada, said that 619 online gambling cases had been revealed from November 5 to November 20, 2024. Of the hundreds of cases, 734 people were named suspects.

The National Police is one of the institutions that is part of the Decree on the Eradication of Online Gambling formed by the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Budi Gunawan.

"From November 5 to 20, 619 cases have been successfully uncovered with 734 suspects," Wahyu told reporters, Thursday, November 21.

Hundreds of suspects with various roles, such as operators, admins, chip sellers, and talent seekers to promote online gambling.

Wahyu also explained the results of the confiscation of hundreds of online gambling cases. For example, cash is around Rp77.6 billion and hundreds of cellphones and laptops.

"Then related to the efforts that will be carried out later, of course, we will carry out asset tracing of the use or use of money obtained from this online gambling as well as the second by implementing money laundering offenses," he said.

In addition, Wahyu also talked about the actions of online gambling suspects who targeted influencers to promote online gambling sites.

One example of the case that was revealed was the gambling site 'Naga Kuda 138'. In that case, two people with the initials MG and HBW were named suspects.

"There are two people that we secure, the first is the Initials MG which acts as marketing online gambling websites, promoting or endorsed the Horse Dragon through influencers where the requirements to become influencers are at least 2,000 followers," he said.

Apart from the results of the disclosure, Wahyu emphasized that the National Police will continue to eradicate online gambling practices according to President Prabowo Subianto's direction. This is because online gambling is one of the causes of the damage to the younger generation.

"Finally, of course, we must support the President's direction together as a commitment to the Police to always take firm action against the practice of online gambling to its roots," said Wahyu.
